Annual Fire Drill at Jan Seva

ree

Like every year, Fire Drill was organised at Jan Seva on 19th Dec 2025 to train the staff, children, adult students and outsiders

Safety and preparedness are integral to the functioning of Jan Seva, and continuing this commitment, a Fire Drill was successfully organised on 19th December 2025. The drill aimed to train staff members, children, adult students, and visitors to respond effectively during emergency situations. Such training is vital in building awareness, confidence, and readiness to handle unforeseen incidents.

Prior to the drill, an orientation session was conducted for the staff and adult students. They were educated about the different types of fires commonly encountered, including fires caused by electrical faults, gas cylinders, and unattended fire sources at home. Special emphasis was laid on preventive measures and immediate actions to be taken during such emergencies. The staff members were also given hands-on training on the proper use of fire extinguishers, enhancing their ability to act swiftly and responsibly.

The actual fire drill demonstrated commendable coordination and efficiency. A total of 238 individuals were evacuated from the building in just 2 minutes and 14 seconds, reflecting the effectiveness of the training and the alertness of all participants. This drill held special significance as 32 children with special needs were present during the exercise, including 6 wheelchair-bound children, whose safe and smooth evacuation was carefully managed.

The drill was conducted by the professional team from Responders, a fire consultancy organisation responsible for maintaining the fire instruments, tanks, and pumps in the building. Mr. Amarendra Banerjee, who is also associated with the Kolkata Traffic Department, expertly guided everyone through the critical steps required for a quick and orderly evacuation.

The training was overseen by our Vice Chairperson, Mrs. Shirin Dastur, along with one of our esteemed well-wishers, whose presence added encouragement and importance to the event.

The Fire Drill reinforced the importance of preparedness, teamwork, and inclusivity in emergency management. Jan Seva remains committed to ensuring a safe environment for all, and such drills play a crucial role in strengthening that commitment year after year.
