Kids’ sports play an important role in promoting physical health, cognitive development, and essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Participation in sports activities helps children build strength, improve coordination, develop self-confidence, and reduce stress. At SICW – Jan Seva, children and adults are given equal opportunities every year to showcase their physical fitness, energy, and enthusiasm during the pleasant winter days of Kolkata.
This year, the Jan Seva Sports Day was held on 16th January 2026 with great excitement and joy. Children from both the ECCEC Programme and the UDAAN Special Needs Programme participated enthusiastically, making the outdoor activities lively, colourful, and memorable for everyone present.
The occasion was graced by our respected Board Member Mrs Sarita Dhir, who distributed prizes among the participants and encouraged the children with her warm presence. Our Guest of Honour for the day was Dr Suman Sur, a gynecologist by profession and a valued supporter closely associated with our work. The events throughout the day were smoothly facilitated by Project Coordinator Mrs Twisha Ganguli. Mrs Anindita Sengupta, the UDAAN Coordinator, along with Special Educators, Teachers, and Trainers, were also present to motivate and support the participants.
One of the highlights of the celebration was an integration event involving children from both the ECCEC and UDAAN programmes. A beautifully coordinated drill performance set to music brought together children of different abilities in a heartwarming display of unity, teamwork, and joy. The children performed with immense enthusiasm, and the special needs children equally enjoyed participating in the drill activities.
Special events were thoughtfully designed for children from the UDAAN Programme according to their individual abilities and strengths. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder participated in an obstacle race, while children with locomotor challenges, many of whom are wheelchair users, enthusiastically took part in the object transfer race. Children with mild intellectual challenges showcased their energy and teamwork during the relay race. Every child was encouraged to participate, express themselves, and celebrate their abilities. Attractive prizes and words of appreciation made the experience even more rewarding for them.
Children from the ECCEC Programme also enjoyed a wide variety of fun races and games, including the frog race, spoon-and-marble race, sack race, pick-up-the-ball race, and sum race. Their cheerful participation, excitement, and laughter filled the grounds with positivity and vibrant energy throughout the day.
The celebrations were made even more special as staff members and adult students enthusiastically joined in the festivities and participated in specially organised games and activities for them.
The day concluded with happy smiles, joyful hearts, and handfuls of prizes for all those who participated with enthusiasm and entertained everyone with their spirit, determination, and sportsmanship. The Sports Day once again reflected the inclusive and nurturing environment of SICW – Jan Seva, where every individual is encouraged to participate, shine, and celebrate their unique abilities.
