On 22nd April 2026, the children of the Education Scholarship Program at SICW came together to celebrate Earth Day with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment.
The celebration began with an engaging and informative PowerPoint presentation conducted by SICW interns. Through this session, the children learned about the importance of Earth Day and why it is observed globally. Key environmental challenges—such as pollution, deforestation, excessive plastic use, and the wastage of natural resources—were explained in a simple and relatable way. The concept of the “3 Rs” — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle — was introduced, helping the children understand how small, everyday actions can collectively make a big difference in protecting our planet.
This was followed by an interactive discussion, where children eagerly shared their ideas on how they could contribute to a healthier Earth. Their responses reflected both awareness and a willingness to adopt positive habits in their daily lives.
Adding a creative and practical dimension to the learning experience, the children participated in a hands-on recycling activity. They crafted paper bags from old newspapers and transformed used plastic bottles into flower pots and bird feeders. This activity not only sparked creativity but also reinforced the importance of reusing and repurposing waste materials.
The celebration concluded with a drawing session, where the children expressed their thoughts and feelings about Earth Day through vibrant and imaginative artwork. Their illustrations beautifully captured messages of care, conservation, and hope for the future.
Overall, the Earth Day celebration at SICW was both educational and enjoyable. Through interactive sessions and meaningful activities, the children gained valuable insights into environmental stewardship—taking small but significant steps towards becoming responsible guardians of our planet.
